Thanks to Ruth Gledhill, The Times Religious Correspondence I have been tagged, courtesy of Richard Frank. By the way, Richard, enjoyed your five secrets. Wasn’t the Multi-Coloured Swap Shop fantastic? Though, I must admit, I had a secret crush on Sally James on Tiswaz. Caught between the horns of a dilemma for sure.
I had better now reveal mine…
- I am apparently distantly related to Grace Darling, famous for rescuing some fisherman in a rowing boat during a violent storm.
- I was once a gothic punk in the early eighties and used to frequent dubious places like the Batcave, Astral Flight and the Kitkat Club.
- While in my adolescent stage of dyed backcombed hair, smudged make up and ominous leather trousers, I was once mistaken for Robert Smith of the Cure and offered a lift home by the legendary Pete Townshend (The Who) after the Stone Roses’ first London gig at the Moonlight Club, Hampstead. (I think that almost counts as cool, then again...)
- During a downtime in my advertising career in the early 90's I wrote comedy sketches for such ‘illustrious’ stars as Russ Abbot, Les Dennis and Brian Conley. Not forgetting writing radio for Frankie Howerd. (Got paid a pittance. Not as glam as you might think.)
- Lastly, I help start the first Alternative Worship Service (Pure) in a Vineyard church in the UK. (Sadly, when Chris Brain from the Nine O’Clock Service, Sheffield fell from grace our days became numbered, but we move on...)
So there you have. It is a miracle that I have turned out so normal. Though some of you may beg to differ.
Thanks for tuning into iGod this year. Looking forward to chatting with you some more through 2007.
A happy and blessed New Year.
