WordLive now available as an iPhone and iPad app

Scripture Union had just launched their new Bible reading service WordLive with an app. And good it looks too.

My only niggle is it is it isn't free like the online experience, but I guess they are a charity and they have been through a torrid time of late. But I do wonder if it might be more attractive to someone wanting to casually look at the Christian faith without having to pay for it. Just a thought.

However, for those of you who, like me, value WordLive and have £2.99 to spare, then there are worse things to dig deep in your pocket for, i.e a £3 bet at Ladbrookes on England getting through the World Cup without at least one game going to penalties.

Share your happiest memory on World Alzheimer’s Day

I am not sure if you have ever experienced anyone with Alzheimer's Disease, but is pretty horrific. I've seen someone I love being slowly robbed of their mind, memories and relationships and it broke my heart.

On this day that specially remembers the fight against Alzheimer's, can I ask you to consider taking a couple of minutes out to visit Alzheimer's Research Trust's microsite: Memories Matter? It allows you to share your happy memories and show your support. I see there's a few odd celebs on there too, including the Prime Minister.

It is a great feel-good Monday thing to do - and very worthwhile.

WordLive from Scripture Union - upgrade

As a user and fan of WordLive, the online Bible reading and devotional study tool from SU, I thought I'd comment on its new look, which went live last Thursday afternoon. (Yeh, I know - I am dragging my heels!) There are also some great photographs, not the usual royalty free stock shot stuff that often gets uploaded on some sites I could mention,

What those guys are doing in Bletchley is really quite remarkable and such a gift to the church. What's more, they offer all their content for free. What a breath of fresh air when my inbox is often inundated from 'Christian ministries' bombarding me with their pay-for-products the whole time.

For those you not familiar with WordLive, check out the video.

What impresses me with this innovative tool is that it works for people with all levels of Bible knowledge. If I had one criticism it would be the Pray First section and some of the tone of voice.  It feels ever so  slightly patronising and young in style, but don't let that put you off. It might not be a problem for you.

BTW, it works great on the iPhone which is the way I usually view mine on the train in the morning.

Anyway, make up your own mind. It's all there to explore.

Happy New Year!

Welcome to 2009!

Probably, like me, you welcome it with some apprehension. However, let's be positive and look for good things to happen or as we say in the church look for blessings.

It was this time last year that I told you about the new service from Scripture Union called WordLive. Although I am not one for making resolutions I intend to make it my aim to go deeper still with God through reading the Bible, praying, listening to culture and reaching out to others with the mercy that has been shown abundantly to me. WordLive is one of the tools that helps me keep on track.

I was sent the cartoon by Jon Birch below in an email a couple of days ago, which reminded me of why WordLive is a good friend to go through the year with. By the way, it works really well on the iPhone, my other trusted friend!

Have a peaceful and enjoyable new year. May you know His presence at all times.
